Social and Political Problems in Dystopian Novels.
We will look at the way in which novels by authors from English-speaking countries describe or anticipate issues arising from pollution, political upheavals, media manipulation, gene manipulation, etc. We will discuss how and to what extent such scenarios mirror contemporary problems and their (impossible) solutions.
In chronological order of publication, the set books will be:
A. Huxley. Brave New World, (1932).
G. Orwell. Animal Farm, (1949).
M. Atwood. The Handmaid´s Tale, (1985). The film.
P.D. James. The Children of Men, (1992).
D. Eggers. The Circle (2003).
