Beschreibung: IELP I courses are devoted to explaining and practicing specific grammatical topics and to acquiring sound vocabulary learning habits. With regard to grammar, the main course aim is to enable students to make conscious use of lexico-grammatical rules in their own active language use, as well as being able to both understand and explain the rules of English grammar. Further aims of the course include expanding students’ vocabulary, developing their mistakes identification and correction skills and working on their pronunciation skills. Sessions are divided into roughly two sections of approximately 45 minutes each. The first 45 minutes will be devoted to answering any questions students might have about the relevant grammar and to practicing the grammatical rules in an appropriately constrained way (e.g. through gap-filling). In order to accomplish this, each student is required to become part of a working group which will create and carry out one student-led class session of. 35-40 minutes. The second 45 minutes will enable students to transfer the newly learned skills to more complex tasks, such as writing, translation, pronunciation and mistakes correction. In addition to the class sessions, students are expected to complete weekly online quizzes to check their vocabulary knowledge and to practice their mistakes correction skills. In one of the later class sessions, each student will take a short pronunciation test, after which they will receive individual feedback designed to help them prepare for the oral examination at the end of the IELP II course. In the penultimate week of class, there will be a comprehensive grammar, vocabulary and mistakes correction test.
