Beschreibung: This is a V1-LITERARY STUDIES course

Virginia Woolf’s novel Mrs Dalloway has come to be regarded as one of the most defining texts of British literary modernism. Set on a single day, Mrs Dalloway follows the thoughts and everyday movements of several characters as they wander around London, each one struggling with an entirely individual set of problems. Issues the characters struggle with range from ‘small’ everyday problems to deep existential questions, and the text touches upon a plethora of topics from war trauma to homosexuality.
In this course we will engage in a close reading of this rather short, but very complex novel. Make sure to have read Mrs Dalloway before the term starts. As finding one’s way around this book is tricky, it is important that we all use the same edition in order to be able to trace textual references. Please purchase the Penguin Modern Classics edition (ISBN 978-0141182490).
Some additional readings might be assigned for certain sessions and will be made available either on Stud.IP or in the university library. Check Stud-IP on a regular basis to be aware of updates, announcements, and changes.
