Beschreibung: In the Victorian Age poetry played a much bigger role in literary life than it does today. Poems and poets were widely read and discussed, and reflect a wide variety of human concerns including happy and unhappy love, the human condition (in view of the presence, absence or non-existence of God), society (ideal and real), loneliness and companionship, fear of death and hope for an after-life.

Credits will be awarded on the basis of regular attendance, an oral report and a written term paper. Please register for the course in person (preferably after making an appointment by e-mail) StudIP registration is not sufficient; anyone registering in person until 10 October 2025 will get a place in the course, irrespective of StudIP.
And please make sure you have read the poems by the beginning of the semester (there will be a short test on titles/contents).
