Beschreibung: This lecture course will introduce students to the study of language variation and change. Based on examples from present-day and historical Englishes we will not only discuss a number of different theoretical perspectives, but also methodologies that help us to capture language "on the run".
Prepatory basic Reading is Burridge & Bergs Understanding Language Change (TF, 2017), available as an electronic copy in the library, and Bybee Language Change (CUP, 2015).
