Beschreibung: This lecture course (which should be attended together with the “Concepts-and-Interpretations” course) is designed for second-semester BA students who prepare for the Modulabschlussprüfung (B1). It intends to offer a historical survey of literatures and cultures in the English-speaking world and to provide an introduction to interpreting texts from a historical point of view. Texts to be discussed will cover the time from the 16th century to the present, as well as Britain, Ireland, the U. S., India, Canada and Australia.
In preparation of the Modulabschlussprüfung (envisaged for 7 July 2022), please read:
William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream;
James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans;
Salman Rushdie, Midnight's Children.
Copies of these texts will be made available at zur Heide bookshop, but you may also wish to consult the internet for reasonably-priced secondhand copies (e.g. bookfinder.com)
