Beschreibung: This course arose out of discussions in my previous translation seminars, when students asked for more in-depth examinations of academic writing. This course will therefore examine how to translate academic texts from a variety of specialisms in an attempt to identify what is good academic style, what common lexical and syntactic structures are used and what conventions of writing academics tend to use to express themselves in written form. It is desirable although not compulsory for students to have taken either Translation in Practice or Stylistics before embarking on this course. Credits will be awarded for students leading a classroom discussion and then submitting a paper with an annotated translation.
