Beschreibung: Before we get to the serious part, let’s think about the following question: Is breakfast cereal a soup? At first glance, this may seem trivial – but why isn’t breakfast cereal a soup? Or is it? This problem exemplifies a basic cognitive process called categorization, during which our knowledge is classified and grouped into categories. Cognitive Linguistics assumes cognitive processes like categorization, which govern the cognitive organization of knowledge, to also apply to language. In this seminar, we will explore how subjectiveness and bodily experience manifest themselves in language, how metaphors work, how knowledge is acquired and stored in the mind, and how we can explain grammar from a cognitive perspective.
Please note: This seminar is designed as a „Blockseminar“, it will start on the 16.06.2023.
Should there be any scheduling issues, e.g., you would like to take part in the seminar but you will have to leave early on e.g. two days or cannot be there on one of the scheduled days, please contact mpentrel@uos.de and we will try to find a solution.

The seminar is open for BA-students and can be select for all components of the ANG-V2, ANG-V-SW, and the ANG-I module. It’s not part of the normal drafting procedure, you need to enroll for it directly. If you have any questions, please contact mpentrel@uos.de as long as the seminar still has „N.N." as the lecturer (this will change in early June).
