DozentIn: Prof. Dr. phil. Thomas Kullmann

Veranstaltungstyp: Seminar

Ort: 22/107

Zeiten: Do. 16:15 - 17:45 (wöchentlich)

Beschreibung: Some of Shakespeare’s plays are concerned with English kings and historical events (conspiracies, battles, marriages) which took place during their reigns. In this course we are going to read four of them: Richard III; Richard II; Henry IV, Part 1; Henry V. Topics to be discussed will include dramatic structure, characterization and Shakespeare’s concepts of kingship and of history.
Seminar participants are invited to take part in a group which will meet to speak/ read aloud Shakespeare's lines, to prepare a scenic reading of one of the plays. Bachelor students may acquire 2 LP (FWBB, ANG-ANG-1) by taking part in this speaking group.
Texts: editions of the plays in The Arden Shakespeare series:

If you wish to take part in the course, please give me a phone call (0541/969-4985, Mondays to Fridays, 8.30 to 12.30), in addition to registering on StudIP. If I can accept you, you will be given a guaranteed place in the course, and in turn make a commitment to attend it. As this is a hybrid course with as much face-to-face instruction as possible, it is essential to know who is going to attend.
And please make sure you have read the plays before term starts (There will be a short test on plots and characters).
