The semantics and pragmatics of gradable adjectives
DozentIn: Dr. Claudia Lehmann, M.A.
Zeiten: Mo. 14:00 - 16:00 (wöchentlich)
Beschreibung: Gradable adjectives have recently become the interest of linguistic research as they give rise to many fascinating semantic and pragmatic effects. The study of adjectival semantics includes aspects of vagueness, scale structure, degree semantics, comparison classes, dimensionality, and evaluativity, among others.
This class is structured in two parts. The first part will be theory-orientated. You will be supposed to read and critically reflect recent research results on the meaning of gradable adjectives. The second part will be research-based. Students will work in small groups on a topic of their choice covering some aspect of adjectival meaning. Your work will culminate in a poster presentation.
"Studiennachweis": active participation in class, participation in project group (work load depends on LPs), poster presentation
"Prüfungsleistung": active participation in class, leading and participating in project group, poster presentation, term paper
