The Work of Charlotte Yonge

DozentIn: Prof. Dr. phil. Thomas Kullmann

Veranstaltungstyp: Seminar

Ort: 41/105

Zeiten: Mi. 18:00 - 19:30 (wöchentlich)

Beschreibung: In Victorian England Charlotte Yonge was certainly one of the most popular novelists. Yonge's main topics were families, love, medieval chivalry and chivalrous behaviour, and her novels are full of vivacious dialogue and psychological insight.
We are going to read two "family novels" as well as two historical tales for young readers:
The Heir of Redclyffe,
The Daisy Chain,
The Little Duke,
The Prince and the Page.

Please copy the texts from master copies left at CopyShop Dialog, Süsterstr. 29. Unfortunately, there are no convenient modern editions.
Credits will be awarded on the basis of regular attendance, an oral report and (if stipulated by the Prüfungsordnung) a written term paper. Please register for the course in one of my office hours (StudIP registration is not sufficient); anyone registering in person until 24 October 2019 will get a place (irrespective of StudIP.), and make a commitment to attend the seminar.
And please make sure you have read the texts by the beginning of the semester (there will be a short test on plots and characters).
