Research Methods in Linguistics
DozentIn: Dr. Claudia Lehmann, M.A.
Veranstaltungstyp: Seminar
Ort: 41/112
Zeiten: Do. 12:00 - 14:00 (wöchentlich)
Beschreibung: This class will provide you with a brief overview on research methods frequently employed in linguistics. After a short introduction to the notions of 'quantitative' and 'qualitative' research, we will first cover quantitative and then qualitative methods that might be of interest to your own projects. This overview is followed by an introduction to statistics - no pain no gain. The last four or so weeks will be dedicated to the students' projects. Students that would like to write a term paper will be encouraged to work on a linguistic project of their choice using empirical methods. During these last few weeks, there will be room for discussing possible research questions, suitable methods and pragmatic issues.
