Beschreibung: Over the last four decades, law-and-literature has emerged as a distinct field of interdisciplinary research and scholarship. Characterized more by a variety of approaches and a mix of methods, the conceptual and theoretical aspects of law-and-literature studies cannot be reduced to one specific understanding of the relation and interaction between the legal and the literary. Rather, the field offers variable perspectives on certain 'modes' or 'moments' of correlation between law and literature - e.g. in regard to specific historical processes and formations, in regard to their resonance (as complementary, competing or even antagonistic) cultural practices and normative discourses, or in regard to their fundamental rhetorical, poetic and performative dimensions.
The course will serve as an introduction to some of the most prominent discussions and approaches within the field of law and literature, including case studies of selected pieces of literature and legal writing. The course will be accompanied by a series of lectures, presenting current work and research in the field.
