Beschreibung: In this course, we explore different facets of what writing about the environment can entail, specifically thinking about how literature takes shape in the context of an increasingly present climate catastrophe, and in the wake of colonial extractivism. We consider the entanglement of racial capitalism and imperialism in producing climate crisis, while also separating and subjugating the natural world from the 'human world'. We then turn to question what a literature that seeks to destabilize boundaries between human and non-human might look like.

In this course, we will read a lot, so please come prepared to read and engage! We will explore various texts, which will including novels and theory as well as excerpts of other literary forms.
