Phonology
DozentIn: Sandra Handl
Veranstaltungstyp: Seminar
Ort: nicht angegeben
Zeiten: Mi. 12:00 - 14:00 (wöchentlich)
Beschreibung: After a brief consideration of some basic phonetic issues (e.g. articulators and sound production, phonetic transcription/IPA), we will have a closer look at the sound system of the English language and study, for instance, the functions of English sounds and how these sounds can (not) be combined in a sequence. We will thus begin with a consideration of English consonants and vowels, before we come to suprasegmental phonology and deal with larger relevant units, such as syllables, words, and intonation. In addition, we will also consider how sounds are acquired/learned in our first and second languages and discuss why certain English sounds often pose problems for German EFL-learners.
