Beschreibung: The sonnet has been and still is a remarkable resilient and (re-)productive genre for thinking and feeling in lyrical form. The course has two major objectives:
A) the close reading of the sonnet form in its stunning variety, focusing less on specific interpretation and meaning, and more on the exploration of formal composition and poetical strategies. This the methodological dimension which will also include some theoretical reflection on basic linguistic and lyrical features and concepts.
B) the direct application of method in writing and composing sonnets: each session will ask for the production of (at least) one 'self-made' sonnet, based on the respective focus of the methodological reflection (e.g. syntax, line, rhyme, prosody, versification, image, argument, etc.)
Basic source and secondary literature will provided (full text or online access). Please check back regularly.
