Beschreibung: This course serves as an introduction to themes and forms in Native American Literature. Most primary texts will be short stories by various native writers, ranging from late 19th-century texts to contemporary works.
The close reading and discussion of primary texts will be complemented by contextual readings, including material regarding historical backgrounds, critical reception, and cultural relevance.
Students are expected to carefully read all assigned texts and prepare their own comments and questions for seminar sessions. To obtain credit points and a grade, students also need to hand in a textual and contextual discussion of one literary example in form of a written essay. Students should be prepared to actively participate in seminar discussions and contribute short presentations of individual or group work.
