Beschreibung: This block course is intended for both bachelor and master students who are interested in investigating cognition of primates, ranging from monkeys to apes. We will discuss how to design, conduct and report on primatological research. Students will get hands on experience into the primatological world (and beyond in the animal field) and how to relate the research to human cognition. The course offers a unique opportunity to work with real-world behavioural data and explore the evolutionary underpinnings of cognitive abilities. Please note that enrollment for this course is no longer possible.

--
Most days will include a lecture on the topic, followed by practical exercises and hands-on training, allowing students to apply the concepts discussed. This work will prepare students for the final assignment: a self-designed mini primatological study using provided video footage of primates. Students will plan, conduct, analyse, and report on their own mini-study, to be submitted as either a written report or a poster.

As part of the assignment, students will give a short presentation near the end of the course, outlining their chosen topic, research question(s), background, hypothesis, and predictions. The presentation is designed to provide an opportunity for feedback that will support the development of the final report or poster.

Students are required to submit the final short report or a digital poster by 28.11.2025.
