Beschreibung:Speculative fiction speculates about alternative pasts, the weirdness of the present and outlandish possible futures. What does this capacity to envision different futures mean in and for the Global South? This seminar will offer a survey of critical approaches to speculative and science fiction, considering how they are embedded in discourses of science and progress, and yet seem to exude emancipatory potential in many contemporary works. The African continent will form a particular focal point for our discussion as we consider creative and theoretical interventions in these questions.
