International Conference - Topic, Focus, and Subject_Between grammatical necessity and information-structural load
Subjecthood is a complex and much debated term without a universally accepted definition. The existence of expletives, arguably also in null subject languages, the subject-predicate distinction, and the interaction with the topic-comment and focus-background pairs turn the debate into an extremely variegated and highly interesting one. Researchers from different theoretical frame- works will discuss subjects, topics, and foci, covering areas such as pronominal subjects, subject expression, word order, subject placement, and interactions with other linguistic features.
