Beschreibung: Focus: The British Isles
In this course we will look at many English varieties, focusing especially on inner circle varieties, especially, those spoken on the British Isles. After discussing general issues such as the difference between accent v. dialect or standard v. non-standard, we will analyse and describe variation on all linguistic levels including phonology, lexicon, grammar. To account for some of the more recent regional/social varieties emerging in Great Britain we will also discuss processes like creolization or language types like pidgins and koines.
