Beschreibung: Monstrous creatures, dangerous doppelgangers, and haunted homes: these are some of the staples of Gothic literature. In this seminar, we will focus on feminist and postcolonial approaches to explore them in three novels by women: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818), Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre (1847), and Jean Rhys’ Wide Sargasso Sea (1966). Students are encouraged to acquire and begin reading these texts early
