Veranstaltungstyp: Seminar
Ort: 41/B10
Zeiten: Do. 12:00 - 14:00 (wöchentlich)
Beschreibung: This course is for students who have already taken a translation or Stylistics course who are interested in exploring literary translation as a further step in their translation studies. We will explore what constitutes literary material from the perspective of applied and contrastive linguistics. We will then explore the ways in which German and English writing (only German to English translation!) achieves its literary aims through varieties of expression, structure and perhaps even content.
Students will earn their credits by leading a class discussion based on a translation they have completed themselves, and then writing a term paper of 2500 words consiting of 1000 words of translation and 1500 words of detailed explanation. Topics and projects will be designed by the students themselves.
