Beschreibung: The ability to write context-, situation- and communication-appropriate texts in English can be considered a key competence. However, many foreign language learners find it difficult to effectively connect their ideas and intentions with appropriate language structures and elements. The genre approach, combined with various process- and product-oriented methods, can help learners on their way to becoming successful writers.
In this seminar, participants will learn both the theories behind the writing process and the skills needed to teach writing effectively in the EFL classroom. We will look at different genres and their written representatives (e.g., cooking recipes, travel blogs, or fairy tales) and learn how to prepare lessons on a particular genre. Students will have the opportunity to create and evaluate their own lesson materials based on various genres of their choice.
Performance Requirements: Active participation, background reading, completion of accompanying learning assignments, planning and presenting a teaching unit in groups, and a written paper and reflection (project work).
