Beschreibung: Academic conferences (and similar events) offer good opportunities for making research public, for receiving feedback from the scientific community, and for establishing contacts with international colleagues. All this can be achieved, in different ways, through the delivery of oral presentations (including question and answer sessions), through the preparation and display of a poster, or through personal communication and networking with other conference attendees.
In this workshop, we will discuss how to make the best use of these forms of presentation and interaction, i.e., how to prepare well for a conference and how to perform professionally and effectively. The workshop includes opportunities for practical application, and we will (among others) address topics such as:
• presenting confidently and overcoming nervousness;
• giving a focused and well-structured academic presentation;
• using different channels of communication in an oral presentation;
• developing effective slides and integrating them well into a talk;
• answering questions, addressing criticism, and defending yourself adequately;
• achieving impact through the design of an academic poster;
• planning and conducting a poster session;
• understanding different types and purposes of networking;
• summarizing your work/research convincingly when talking to others.
